Dr. Li got Ph.D at Institute of High Energy physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2007, he was an Assistant professor at Institute of High Energy physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
RESEARCH INTRODUCTION
The relationship between environment and human health is a very critical issue and needs more and more effects to elucidate it. Currently, Dr. Li is major interested in the following two area of environment and health relationship study
1. Health effect of heavy metals exposure, especially mercury exposure and the corresponding health promotion study.
One of our major study area is Guizhou, where is rich in Hg. We have successfully implemented a pilot study on the selenium supplementation study in long-term mercury exposed populations in Guizhou (Phase I). A random double-blind controlled selenium intervention trials (phase II) will soon be performed as scheduled. The health effect of Se in long-term Hg exposed population will be investigated and the mechanism of Se and Hg interaction will also be elucidated.
We have investigated the mercury speciation and mercury biomolecules interaction using MALDI-TOF-MS, XAFS, and HPLC-ICP-MS. Synchrotron-based spectroscopic and microscopic methods, including X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), and X-ray fluorescent (XRF) in Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF), China and KEK, Japan as a powerful techniques will also be used. Biological analysis like enzyme activity, DNA oxidation damage etc will also be investigated. Trace element determination and speciation study is also necessary.
Cooperation on the health effect of Hg-exposure and the corresponding health promotion study has been found with hospitals and other research institutes..
2. Health effect of artificial nanomaterials and the corresponding health promotion study.
More and more health concern on artificial nanomaterials is raised and a lot of animal and molecular experiments have shown the impact of artificial nanomaterials on health. Based on these studies, the health effect on human being of artificial nanomaterials will be studied and the corresponding health promotion measures will be studied.
